2009 yılında Almanya ULM Üniversitesi'nde The International Centre for Innovation in Education (ICIE) tarafından düzenlenen Excellence İn Education 2009 Leading Minds-Creating The Future Konferansına 4 sözlü başvurum kabul edildi. 2009 yılında Ulusal Konferanslarda sunumlar olduğundan ve bu sunumlara kişisel bütçemden harcamalar yapmam nedeniyle Ulm Üniversitesindeki sunumları yapmaya gidemedim. Birçok kurum ve kuruluşa başvurdum. Hiçbir yardım alamadım. Sağlık Olsun....

NATURE AND EROSION TRAINING THROUGH PEDAGOGIC GAME AND CREATIVE DRAMA IN RIMARY SCHOOL CONTEXT
Senior Biologist Mehmet Duran ÖZNACAR

For the instruction of biological variety, environmental pollution, and erosion, the activities “Plants went to law”, “I eat you” “The Passwords of Living beings in Nature Find me” were carried out through pedagogic games and creative drama based on constructivist theory.

It was observed that the activities carried out had positive effects on the developments like thinking critically, applying the requirements of democracy in the classroom, productive and creative thinking,  competence in participating in the activities in classroom, showing scientific attitudes and behaviours,  investigating, scientific thinking, having and displaying rich ideas, sharing the information and findings obtained, entrepreneurship skills, and communication skills.

“Plants went to law”, “I eat you” “The Passwords of Living beings in Nature Find me” activities were applied in Adana Science and Arts Center during the postgraduate research and in TEMA (The Turkish Foundation for Combating Soil Erosion, for Reforestation and the Protection of Natural Habitats), Junior TEMA Erosion Education Camp for three years. The students were administered a survey evaluating the activities and the results were analyzed.

It was observed that students developed positive attitudes towards the questions “Do you find Science and Technology lessons boring? What do you think of the activities we carried out? And some of the students’ comments were as follows: “ I did not use to like science lessons before, now I like it very much” “I did not get bored in the lesson. For the first time I came to school from home so happily”. “The thing I liked most was our shouting “FREEDOM TO PLANTS” in the end. The whole school listened to us”. “I learned that all living beings have equal rights. I do not pick tree leaves anymore.”

Findings obtained from the study showed that activities based on the constructivist theory have positive effects on keeping the newly learned information in mind and using them in real life.

ACTIVITIES IDENTIFYING GIFTED STUDENTS’ READINESS LEVEL
Senior Biologist Mehmet Duran ÖZNACAR

The orientation program for the gifted and talented students aims to identify students’ readiness level and areas of ability. The purpose of this activity based on the constructivist theory is to observe students’ critical thinking, productive and creative thinking, scientific attitudes and behaviors, scientific thinking, richness of ideas they have and display, taking responsibility, sharing the information and findings obtained, entrepreneurship and communication skills. These are the activities aiming to find out their areas of interests and abilities and identify their cognitive, affective, social and kinesthetic performance levels and carried out throughout the orientation program. We try to identify the students’ prior knowledge and differences in Science, Mathematics, Turkish, Music, Art. These activities are designed to be used in identifying students’ readiness levels in orientation program in Science and Arts Centers, . The activity is composed of sub activities called “Artist and Apprentice, Sound and Energy, Invisible Play Dough, Prove it Game, and Let’s make a song”. The activity was conducted to the3rd, 4th and 5th grade students whose IQs are 130 and above. These students enrolled Adana Science and Arts Center in the 2005-2006, 2006–2007, 2007–2008, 2008–2009 education years.

THE STORY OF AN ONGOING SUCCESS THROUGH PROJECT-BASED LEARNING IN THE EDUCATION OF GIFTED STUDENTS

Senior Biologist Mehmet Duran ÖZNACAR

Within the scope of modern learning theories, students’ taking part in each level of learning and gaining consciousness of us provide the feeling of responsibility for the work being done and protection. In order for the students to improve decision making skills it is necessary for them to face the problems and to make suggestions for solutions. It has been observed that Project based work reveals higher order cognitive skills. We conducted 24 Project based work with 35 students in Adana Science and Arts Center (BILSEM) in three years. Some of these projects was rewarded in “This is my Creation” “Mathematics Project Contest Turkey Finals” ve “16th Inepo National Environment Project “ olympiads in 2006, 2007, and 2008. (“Eco Techno Apartment”, “Tolerance Tools”, “Benefiting from Natural Vegetation in Curing Bacterial Infections”, “Water City”, “Driving away ambush”). The purpose of this study is to share the experiences arising from this ongoing success and to extend the activities based on Project based work by sharing changes and developments among students. Learning is described as starting an action like a scientist aiming to reveal the required information and evaluate it, actively acquiring and building up information and discussing it; rather than passively learning the given information. Teaching techniques aiming this kind of an objective requires teachers to work like a coach who motivates children, diagnoses situations, guides learners when necessary, manages processes, creates environments for the benefits of students, likes to learn and searches constantly. This study evaluates students’ performances as well.

GALILEO MESSENGERS IN CLASSROOM- ASTRONOMY ACTIVITIES IN THE EDUCATION OF GIFTED STUDENTS

Senior Physicist Mihrunisa DURAN
Senior Biologist Mehmet Duran ÖZNACAR

International Astronomy Union proposed that the year 2009, 400th anniversary of the first astronomical observation using a telescope by Galileo Galilei, should be declared as the international Year of Astronomy(IYA). The center arranged an activity room for astronomy, gathered students together, created groups and carried out activities about astronomy. “Let’s make a sundial” “Take your blanket and come” “The Solar System on the Curtain” “Galileo in Classroom” “Messengers at shools” “It is Raining Meteors” “Invite your Teacher and Come” “Messengers in Uzaymer” “We’re Setting an Astronomy Room” “We Stay up all night at the Roof” activities were carried out with 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th grade students called Galileo Messengers. The activities were conducted in Adana Science and Arts Center in the 2008-2009 education year from September through January. Sixty students were in groups of ten pupils and worked in and out of classroom in activity times lasting for 60 minutes. The performances of students were evaluated according to the extensification and invitation to participate in teachers network  in their schools. 2009 International  Year of Astronomy  activities carried out in Adana  Science and Arts Center under the coordinatorship of Turkish Astronomy Union will be able to be used in Space Clubs in schools by extensifying in and out of class activities.
